Color me Decluttered
In the 80’s, my mother introduced me to Color Me Beautiful and the concept of color analysis. It was based on palettes assigned to the 4 seasons and you were assigned a season based on your skin tone, hair, and eye color. Pretty simple.
I don’t know what happened in years since but color analysis seemed to have disappeared and we just relied on what was in stores to determine what colors to wear. Which works well for some but not for others.
But now colors are back and so is color analysis. I’d like to think knowing which colors look best on you was never out of style. Knowledge is power!
Knowing the colors that work best for you gives you the power to make quick decisions when faced with a multitude of options. You’ll spend less time searching because you’ll know exactly what shades to look for. You can confidently eliminate anything not in your palette. However, if you love the color no one is going to stop you from wearing it.
You’ll say “no” much faster to the trendy colors that may not be your best. You’ll recognize retailers’ color palettes for the season and know instantly if they are flattering for you or not.
Knowing YOUR colors means you have a good reason to edit the wrong color clothes from your closet that you never wear because they are not going to flatter you.
So it’s a win/ win when you know your colors: You buy the colors that look best on you and you eliminate the clothes in your closet that don’t.
When you know what colors make you look your best, you can have a closet full of clothes that complement you. No more “I thought this would look good and I don’t know why I hate it on me.” No more clothes with tags still on them haunting you because they aren’t the right color for you. Let someone else wear them!

I wanted to know my colors so that I could make smarter clothing choices. While I kind of knew I was a “summer” based on my reading of the Color Me Beautiful book, I thought my skin tone might have changed along with my modified hair color.
I used YourColorGuru for my color consultation. Once you sign up and choose a package, you answer a questionnaire, and submit some photos. It’s very easy and they even tell you exactly how to take the pictures. Mine were super unflattering, makeup free, and quickly deleted from my roll once I sent them.
A few days later, they emailed me my Color Radiance Report which gave me my “season” (Sunlit Summer) and a detailed explanation of the colors and shades that work best for me and why.
Lighter, less intense shades are better for me. Black isn’t great but Navy is. Pinks are A+. Stay away from orange and brown.
The report also included my 35 best colors and it was sent to me in laminated card form. Not only do I have this in my purse when shopping in person but I also have a digital copy I can pull up when selecting online. This is going to be a game changer when it comes to selecting clothes because I’ll know what to stay away from and what shades will look best.
I’ve partnered with them so share their services with you. You can use the code CARRIE at check out to save you 10% off the different packages.
This a great gift for anyone wanting to know which colors they should seek out and which ones they should avoid. It’s perfect for birthdays, Mother’s or Father’s Day, graduations, or even as a gift to yourself!
