Organizing Gift Wrap Essentials

Love these Multi-Purpose bins for containing gift bags and tissue. Remember to store Christmas bags separately.

Wrapping gifts ANY time of year can be frustrating if you can’t find the right supplies when you need them. Kids “borrow’ the scissors and the tape gets “misplaced” and the ribbon gets permanently and accidentally moved to another room.

Or you just see a jumbled pile of paper, ribbon, boxes, and bags which not only kills the gift wrapping mood, it adds another step to the process you didn’t have time for.

Let’s get all of your gift wrapping essentials organized so that they are ready for you any time you to wrap a gift. Whether you’re in charge of Santa’s workshop or wrapping your best friend’s birthday gift, you need a simple solution to keep your gift wrap supplies organized that’s easy to maintain.

Here you go!

  1. Get an extra pair of scissors just for gift wrapping. LABEL IT “gift wrapping” and if they get “stolen” the culprit will know where they really belong.

  2. Use a desk tape dispenser so you can get a piece of tape with one hand.

  3. Stock up on tape refills so you’re not without it when you really need it!

  4. Gather & store your supplies together in a closet or cabinet. This way you save time eliminating having to search high and low for scissors, tape, ribbon, paper, boxes, etc. If you have a spare table you can pull out, even better! Gone are the days of wrapping presents on the floor. 😆

  5. Use a cart for all of the supplies if you have the space. That way you can roll it out when you need it and put it away when you’re done.

  6. Adopt a signature style. I like having a signature look for my wrapped packages which makes wrapping so much easier. I stock up on different colors of grosgrain and velvet ribbon for different occasions. If you have a strand of navy grosgrain ribbon, most likely I’ve given you a gift.😊

  7. Keep a stash of brown and white Kraft paper on hand for wrapping gifts of all seasons. Use your simple ribbon to tie a pretty bow and you’re done!
At Christmas I like to get 3-4 different styles of paper that complement one another so they look pretty under the tree. If you don’t have time or inclination for that, stick with the Kraft paper and it will look perfect. Lora Lee Lewis has gorgeous paper for all occasions and Home Goods is a good local resource. Always get paper with the grid on the back.

  8. If you only do one thing to organize your gift wrap, separate your Christmas gift bags from the others. This will save you so much time and frustration throughout the year since you only use the Christmas bags once a year. Organize your gift bags by occasion in multipurpose bins. These are open on the top so you can pull them out easily like a file cabinet. I like to separate wine bags from the others, too, so I can grab them easily for a hostess gift.

  9. Use slap bracelets to secure your gift wrap rolls. No more rubber bands or tape ruining your paper!

  10. Keep gift enclosure cards with your gift wrap so all of your gift wrap essentials are together. Order pretty ones to add the perfect finishing touch!

Maximize the back of a closet door by adding this gift wrap organizer. I can’t tell you how many of these I’ve installed!

The Elfa gift wrap cart is a great option if you have the space and want something you can stash or pull out when needed.

You can get the gift wrap attachment and put it on a rolling cart to make your own budget friendly gift wrap cart.
